In April 1974, the Council of American Witches adopted the Principles of Wiccan Belief.
Those who are Wiccan:

1. Practice rites to attune themselves with the natural rhythm of life forces marked by the phases of the moon and the seasonal quarters and cross quarters.

2. Recognise that human intelligence gives them a unique responsibilty towards the enviroment.

3. Acknowledge a depth of power far greater than that apparent to the average person (sometimes called the supernatural, but wiccans see it as lying within the potentual for all).

4. Conceive the creative power in the universe as manifesting through polarity - as masculine and feminine, the god and goddess. Wiccans value neither above the other.

5. Recognise both outer worlds and inner, or psychological, worlds sometimes known as the spiritual world, the collective unconscious, and they see in the interaction of these 2 dimentions the basis for paranormal phenomena and magickal exersises.

6. Do not recognise authoritarian hierarchy, but do honour those who teach, respect those who share thier greater knowledge and wisdom, and ackonwledge those who have courageously given of themselves in leadership.

7. See religion, magick and wisdom in living as being united in the way one views the the world and lives within it.

8. Believes that calling oneself a witch doesn't make a witch. Neither does heredity, nor the collecting of titles, degrees and iniations. A witch seeks to control the forces within her/himself that make life possoble in order to live wisely and well without harm to others and in harmony with nature.

9. Believe in the affirmation and fullfillment of life in a continuation of evolution and development of the conciousness.

10. Their only animosity towards Christianity, or towards any other religion or philosophy of life, is to the extent that it's instituations have claimed to be "the one way" and have sought to deny freedom to others and to supress other ways of religious practice and belief.

11. As Australian witches, they are not threatened by debates on the history of the craft, the origins of various terms, or the legitimacy of various aspects of different traditions.

12. Do not eccept the concept of absolute evil, nor the worship of any entity known as Satan or the devil. We do not seek power through the suffering of others, nor accept that personal benefit can be derived only by denial ot another.

13. Believe that Wiccans should seek within nature that which is contributory to our health and well being.
